aaiOur
music compact discs and cassette tapes are the standard format
accepted across the world. Compact disc 'singles' will play
the same as a CD album. For information about multimedia, video and DVD please
read on.
What is a multimedia
disc?
aaiThis
is a type of compact disc designed to be used in a computer.
It contains music as well as interactive content - pictures,
text and video. Scotdisc titles are 'Dual Format' so they
will operate on both Windows and Apple Macintosh platforms.
They have been designed to work on an entry level domestic
computer with a basic sound and video card. If you have a
computer that is five years old or less (Windows 98+ or Mac
7.5+) you should be fine anywhere in the world.
What
about the Postcard CD's?
aaiThe multimedia information
described above also applies to the Interactive Postcard.
The only difference is in the size of the disc.
What is my video format?
aaiThere
are two retail VHS video tape formats available today. These
are PAL and NTSC. NTSC (National Television Standards
Committee) is the format that is used mainly in America, Canada,
Japan, Taiwan and some South American regions. PAL (Phase
Alternate Lines) is the format suited for VHS players in Australia,
New Zealand, United Kingdom, and most other European countries.
it is very important to understand this as PAL video tapes
will NOT play on an NTSC machine or vice versa unless it is a dual format video player.
aaiIn
the case of Scotdisc videos, these generally come in
both PAL
and NTSC
format unless otherwise stated. Please take care to
order the correct format for your country (please see the list below).
What
about DVD and what is a Region?
aaiNTSC
and PAL formats also apply to DVD video and
it should state on the packaging which format is included.
Scotdisc DVD's come in PAL and NTSC format unless otherwise stated. Please be sure to check
the product details in our catalogue.
aaiDVD's also carry another form of encoding called 'Region'.
This is intended to restrict particular video releases to certain regions
of the world.
Scotdisc DVD's are region 'O' or regionless
i.e. they will play in any region unrestricted.
Am
I PAL or NTSC?
aaiBelow
is a list of countries and the format they prefer. If your
country is not listed here, it could be because you use an
unusual format called SECAM which is mainly employed in France
and the French colonies. Unfortunately it is uneconomical
for Scotdisc to produce video in this format at the present
time.
